ARTICLE DISPONIBLE EN ANGLAIS UNIQUEMENT : The project will bring together relevant governmental bodies, local authorities and non-governmental organisations to take collaborative action to combat domestic violence against women in Turkey. The project will be implemented by the Directorate-General on the Status of Women, with the technical support of the United Nations Population Fund for a period of 24 months, with a budget of €2.9 million. Within the framework of the project a national action plan and a communication strategy will be prepared. With the plan, Turkey will have established a roadmap to combat violence against women. The communication strategy will define the means to prevent violence against women by awareness raising among the general public. Models will also be in place to serve and help victims recover. Moreover, a nationwide database will be established to monitor the incidents of domestic violence. By the end of the project, a training curriculum will be ready to train staff directly working with victims. All these results will be accomplished with the participation of all stakeholders both in Ankara as well as in other regions. Part of a broader picture… The Combating Domestic Violence against Women Project is just one component of the EU-funded “Promoting Gender Equality in Turkey” project, which helps the efforts of the Turkish Government to mainstream gender issues into all public policies and to implement gender equality related legislation. The project involves another component to conduct national research to identify the causes and consequences of domestic violence. The total value of the project is €5.8 million and has the overall goal of promoting gender equality and protecting women’s human rights in Turkey.
